Moving Forward with Achievement Centers for Children

An organization devoted to bettering the lives of children and adults with disabilities and their families, the Achievement Centers for Children (ACC) serves nearly 2,000 individuals with a wide range of disabilities from birth through adulthood by providing therapy, education, recreation, adapted sports, as well as family support and social work services. When asked about the impact of COVID-19 on their agency, President and CEO Sally Farwell, told us, “We had to quickly reinvent our organization into a provider of high-quality remote and telehealth services for as many of our clients as possible.” As an organization dedicated to empowering children and adults with disabilities to achieve their highest potential, ACC provided learning materials and at home support for therapy, family support and our education services. “COVID-19 has disrupted many of our revenue sources,” Sally said, “but, it has also shown us that we can effectively serve our clients in new and creative ways.”

Sally told us, “We are now slowly opening up each of our three sites to, again, provide in-person services while following all COVID-19 health and safety standards and protocols.” Although it is a challenge to provide services while following health and safety guidelines, Sally noted, “Our staff is doing an excellent job in finding creative solutions and using their resources. They have been proactive and nimble in responding to [our] client needs.” She continued, saying that ACC is working closely with their community partners and Board of Directors to strategically think about how they adjust to this “New Normal.” Sally concluded by telling us, “Although there will be challenges ahead in all areas of our organization, and services might look different moving forward, we know our future will be bright.”
