Health & Fitness Culture in the Workplace
Building a health & fitness oriented culture is no easy task. There are many things to take into consideration when implementing a wellness program. We’ve narrowed down our 5 most critical points that will allow you the confidence to put yourself in a “can’t miss” situation.
- Leadership– Never forget, culture starts from the top down. Commitment from top level executives creates a “lead by example” mindset. Demonstrating a disciplined wellness work ethic will surely create followers.
- Accountability– A shoulder to lean on is always important for staying the course. Provide a place where people can be transparent about their successes and their opportunities in order to learn from other’s strategies or mistakes.
- Empowerment– As the old saying goes, “knowledge is power.” This couldn’t be more true about health & fitness. Encouraging employees to expand their knowledge base can go a long way in helping them connect to a healthier lifestyle on their own terms.
- Options & Incentives– Always provide options for your employees and allow them to decide how they go about their fitness journey. Fitness isn’t always black and white. Some things work well for many, and not so well for others. Having options increases the comfort of the employee and allows them to start at their ability level. From there, incentivize staff to continue!
Not all companies are lead by personal trainers and creating a health & fitness culture can be a daunting task. Much like filing your taxes or handling legal documents, sometimes it’s better to turn to a professional.
