Recognizing and Celebrating Black History Month

Recognizing and Celebrating Black History Month

Is your business recognizing Black History Month?

The idea for a month of commemoration was originated back in 1926 as “Negro History Week,” and encouraged people to reflect on the achievements of African Americans throughout history, including those that were first to step up and start their own businesses. By the late 1960s, the name had evolved to “Black History Month” across many college campuses and became a strong influence for diversity in the workplace.

Investing in local Black-owned businesses and increasing supplier diversity are just a couple of ways organizations can show support and help to grow their businesses. [Check out this article from Entrepreneur for more ideas.]

If you’re looking for local events related to Black History Month, WHACC Member Cuyahoga Community College has two options including the 2022 African American Read-In @ Tri-C Eastern Campus on February 3 and an NAACP Virtual Presentation at Tri-C on February 23.

Tell us how you show support. Join the conversation here.
